inadequate water to nourish wood

(water represents the kidney-YIN; wood, the liver. When the kidney-YIN is deficient, the liver cannot be nourished. Thus various disorders will result. This is similiar to wilt-ing and dryness of the tree when water does not nourish it. cf. a maternal disease affecting its offspring )
