n．①租用，雇佣：a motor-car on hire 出租的汽车．Let out horses on hire．马匹出租．②租金，工钱：pay for the hire of付租金．
－vt．①租借，雇佣：hire a taxi for several hours租用汽车几小时．hired by the year(the month，the day)长工(月工，零工)．②出租(out)：hire out motor-cars by the hour按钟点出租汽车．(注意：租借房屋土地一般用rent，暂时租借可用hire．)
