a．①另外的，他方的：The house is on the other side of the street．房子在街的那一边．Give me the other one，not this one．给我另外一个，不要这个．on the other hand另一方面．the other day几天以前，最近：I met him at the bus stop the other day．最近我在汽车站碰见过他．every other 1)所有其它的．2)间隔的：every other day隔日，每隔一天．every other line每隔一行．②别的，其余的：Ask some other people，please．请问问别人吧．The other comrades are having a meeting．其它同志在开会．She is far better in handwriting than any other member of the class．她的书法比班里其它人好得多．other things being equal如果其它条件相同的话．③不同的：The question must be decided by other conside rations．这个问题必须另行考虑而定．I do not wish it other than it is．我不希望它改变现状．far other from大不相同：She is far other from what you suppose．她和你所想象的大不相同．the other way round(=just the other way)恰恰相反
