(readier，readiest)a．①有准备的，做好准备的：be ready for school准备上学．get ready for a journey准备旅行．be ready to start准备出发．Dinner is ready．饭准备好了．②自愿的，心甘情愿的：be always ready to help others总是乐于帮助别人．A Communist is ready to dedicate his life to the struggle for communism．共产党员决心为共产主义奋斗终身．③敏捷的，迅速的，立即的：be ready at accounts擅长算帐．be ready in one’s answer回答问题迅速．Don’t be so ready to find fault．不要这么急于挑剔．④在可及的范围内的，易于取得的：ready money现款．an instrument ready to hand手边的器具．keep a dictionary ready 把一本词典放在身边．⑤轻便的，简便的，欣然的：the readiest way to do it做这事的捷径．
