a．①任何种类的，任何程度的，无论怎样的：Take whatever measures you consider best．你认为什么办法最好，就采取什么办法．I’ll stand whatever test the Party gives me．我要经受住党给我的任何考验．②(用于否定句中，置于名词之后，加强语气)任何…也，一点…也：I know nothing whatever about it．这件事我一点也不知道．No charming phrases whatever can cover up the fact that U．S．imperialists are aggressors．无论任何迷惑人的词句都不能掩盖美帝是侵略者这一事实．
