①比喻没有本领的人冒充有本领，混在里面凑数，例选拔职员一定要求有真才实学，任人唯贤，不可滥竿充数。
People with real talent and learning must be chosen for jobs，in other words，pcople must be appointed on their merits．Incompetent people must not be employed merely to make up the number．
②也可表示自谦，例我在这个职位上滥竽充数好几年了，想来真是惭愧。
I have been working here just to fill up a vacancy for several years now and feel truly apologetic when I look back．
