【释义】：
①失败；没能够〔I am afraid I’d fail as an artist．作为画家我恐怕不会成功。
He failed to meet me at six o’clock．他在六点钟没来接我。〕②不及格③舍弃；使失望〔Do not fail me in my hour of need．在我困难的时候别抛下我。〕④消失，失去〔His courage failed him when he saw the policeman．他一见警察就丧失了勇气。
〕⑤(体力等)衰退，减弱〔The wounded knight was failing fast．受伤的骑士体力迅速衰退。
〕⑥破产〔Many banks failed in l933．l933年有许多银行破产。〕／without fail必定，务必
