【释义】：
①(连接状语从句)惟恐，免得：Don’t feel conceited lest you should lag behind．不要自高自大，免得落后．I shall go together with you lest you should not find the secretary’s place．我同你一起去，怕你找不到书记的住处．I’ll give him advice lest he(should)mgke mistakes．我要劝告他，免得他犯错误．②(用在fear，be afraid等词的后面连接名词从句=that)：I fear lest no medicine should save him．我怕药物不能拯救他．I was afraid lest he(should)come too late．我怕他来得太迟．(注意：lest连接的两种从句，谓语都用should或其它虚拟语气形式．)
