【释义】:

(lost,lost)vt.①失去,丧失,损失:lose one’s balance跌倒.lose one’s father丧父.lose one’s job失业.lose one’s reason(or mind,wits,senses)发狂.lose heart灰心,丧胆,害怕:We must not lose heart when faced with difficulties.面临困难时不要灰心.lose interest(人)失去兴趣,(事)引不起兴趣.be lost to 1)对…丧失感觉:The revisionists are lost to shame.修正主义者恬不知耻.2)使失去:Hope was never lost to him.他从不失望.②丢失,迷失:lose one’s key丢失钥匙.lose one’s way迷路.lose one’s place忘记读到那里了.lose track of sth.(or sb.)不知下落.lose oneself in sth.(=be lost in)沉迷于:He was lost in thoughtfor a moment.他一时陷于沉思之中.③错过,没赶上,没看见,没听见:lose the train没赶上火车.We should lose no opportunity to gather in the crops.我们应当不失时机地收割庄稼.I lost words here and there in his report.他的报告我好些地方没有听见.④浪费(时间、劳力等):Let’s lose no time in beginning work.让我们上开始工作.be lost upon对…无效验,对…不起作用:All our advice was lost upon him.我们对他的种种劝告都没有起到作用.⑤输,失败:lose a battle打败仗.lose a game输一局.lose the game to sb.输给某人.a lost cause已失败或注定失败的主义、运动等.(play)a losing game(参加)多半或必定会输的比赛.⑥脱却,摆脱(疾病、恐惧等):I have lost my cold.我的伤风已好了.⑦使丧失:Bad morale lost the enemy the battles.士气不振使敌人每战必败.⑧(用被动式)灭亡,消失:This enemy ship was lost with all hands.敌船跟船上所有的人一齐沉没了.
