Make brick without straw

【释义】：

作无米之炊；(喻)无计可施

And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,

Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.

And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish aught thereof: for they be idle; there fore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.

Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words.

And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.

Go ye, get you straw where ye can find it: yet not aught of your work shall be diminished.

So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw.

Exod.5:6-12

当天，法老吩咐督工的和官长说：

“你们不可照常把草给百姓作砖，叫他们自己去捡草。

他们素常作砖的数目，你们仍旧向他们要，一点不可减少，因为他们是懒惰的，所以呼求说：‘容我们去祭祀我们的神。’

你们要把更重的工夫加在这些人身上，叫他们劳碌，不听虚谎的言语。”

督工的和官长出来对百姓说：“法老这样说：‘我不给你们草。

你们自己在哪里能找草，就往哪里去找吧!但你们的工一点不可减少。

’”

于是百姓散在埃及遍地，捡碎秸当作草。
